Division of Air Quality

A Division of Air Quality Air Monitor

We breathe a lot of air. Depending on our age, we breathe anywhere from 750 gallons to 3,500 gallons of air per day, and more when we are active. Because of all the air we breathe, pollutants in the air have real impacts on our bodies. Ozone can cause an effect similar to sunburn to our lungs while fine particles can penetrate deep into our lungs and reduce our lung capacity and even trigger a cardiovascular response.

The quality of air in Delaware has improved but we continue to be challenged by Ozone and fine particle pollution. There are steps we can all take to protect ourselves and improve air quality. Delaware’s Air Quality Annual Reports provide you with information on Delaware's air quality, sources of pollution, and what we can each do to help improve our air. You can also visit our Air Monitoring Network page to get real-time air quality information from one of our nine air monitoring stations.
