NOTIFICATION OF NEGOTIATIONS FOR A BROWNFIELDS DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT FOR THE FORMER CHRYSLER NEWARK PLANT SITE (DE-0105)
Pursuant to the Hazardous Substance Cleanup Act (HSCA), 7 Del. C. Chapter 91, §9126, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is required to issue a public notice within twenty days after entering into negotiations for a Brownfields Development Agreement (BDA). A BDA is an agreement between DNREC and a Brownfields developer with respect to a Certified Brownfield Site that sets forth a scope of work and schedule of remedial activities during the development of the Site.
DNREC’s Site Investigation and Restoration Branch (DNREC-SIRB) is negotiating a BDA with the University of Delaware regarding the Former Chrysler Newark Plant located at 550 S. College Avenue in Newark, Delaware. Known by New Castle County as tax parcel numbers 18-039.00-002 and 18-036.00-002, the approximate 271 acre Site had release(s) of hazardous substances as a result of past use as an auto assembly plant. For more site-specific information, please see DNREC-SIRB’s superfund site files database at
