“Outstanding in the Field” Comes to the Indian River Life-Saving Station

REHOBOTH BEACH - The staff at the Indian River Life-Saving Station in Delaware Seashore State Park is excited to announce that “Outstanding in the Field,” an event that travels the country, will make its first Delaware stop at the Life-Saving Station on Monday, Sept. 6, at 3 p.m.  Local celebrity chef Matt Haley will prepare the meal.  Tickets are $200 per person and are available at www.outstandinginthefield.com.

“Outstanding in the Field” is a self-proclaimed “restaurant without walls” that travels the country providing outdoor dining experiences designed to reconnect people with the land and communities that produce the food that is served during the meal.  In each location, local foods and goods are used to prepare the meal, honoring the people who work to provide it.  The event typically includes a tour of the site and a meal prepared by a local chef.

Chef Haley is founder of SoDel Concepts, a restaurant development group that includes fine restaurants such as Fish On!, bluecoast seafood grill, Lupo di Mare and Catch 54, among others, all located in Del.’s beach resorts.  Haley is excited to have the opportunity to promote Delaware’s agriculture, food and its communities.

To prepare the menu, he’ll travel to local farms choosing the freshest products.  The menu will include locally-caught bluefish; peaches, corn, and other local fruits and vegetables; artisan bread prepared at a local bakery and ice cream from Hopkins Dairy in Lewes.

The Indian River Life-Saving Station is located one mile north of the Indian River Inlet on Route 1 in Rehoboth. The station, which features a unique gift shop and museum, was built in 1876 and has been meticulously restored to its 1905 appearance.  The museum is open for tours daily through November and on select days throughout the year.  The schedule and more information are available by calling 302-227-6991 or visiting www.destateparks.com.
