Alapocas Run State Park’s Contemporary Folk Art in Action Series: Quilts, Quilts, Quilts
WILMINGTON (July 25, 2011) – Alapocas Run State Park hosts a showcase for area quilters on Sunday, July 31 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Blue Ball Barn, 1914 West Park Drive, Wilmington. The Blue Ball Barn is the permanent home of the Delaware State Park’s Folk Art Collection, which features several handmade quilts. A common appreciation of that collection has brought quilters and quilting fans together to share and show their work.
The program will include a presentation by Ann Horsey, Curator with the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs. Ms. Horsey will be bringing quilts from the State’s collection to share and examine for style, technique and beauty. The presentation begins at 1:30 p.m. Seating is limited.
Alapocas Run State Park is located in Wilmington and is convenient to I-95. The park features a multi-use trail that connects to the Northern Delaware Greenway, the Can-Do Playground, and the historic the Blue Ball Barn. The Blue Ball Barn, built in 1914, is named after an inn and meeting house that was once located near the property. The Blue Ball Barn is now the home of the Delaware Folk Art Collection and may be rented for meetings and special events.
