 Auburn Heights Steamin’ Evenin’ Ice Cream Social

YORKLYN (May 23, 2011) – The Marshall Steam Museum cordially invites one and all to its Steamin’ Evenin’ Ice Cream Social on June 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Auburn Heights Preserve. 

Featured are rides in antique steam cars or on the Auburn Valley Railroad’s 1/8-size coal-fired steam train, fresh steam-popped popcorn from the museum’s antique Cretor’s popper and tours of the first floor of the1897 Queen Anne-style mansion, home to three generations of the Marshall family. The Marshall Steam Museum houses the world’s largest operating collection of Stanley Steamers, a display of 1930s Lionel electric trains and an interactive exhibit, Under the Hood: How a Stanley Steam Car Works. Delicious ice cream and sundaes from Woodside Farm Creamery will be available.

 

Steamin’ Evenin’ Ice Cream Socials will take place throughout the summer, on the first Saturday of each month from 6 to 9 p.m. In addition, Steamin’ Days at Auburn Heights Preserve are offered from late spring to fall.  Each Steamin’ Day features a unique program.  The program on June 19 offers a special Father’s Day celebration; July 17 celebrates Victorian lawn amusements; August 14 showcases a special historic autos display; September 3 – 4 is all about trains with garden railroad layouts never before displayed at Auburn Heights. October 22 – 23 is when the goblins and ghouls come out, and November 25 – 26 features a harvest celebration. Full details are available at AuburnHeights.org.

 

Auburn Heights Preserve, operated by the Friends of Auburn Heights Preserve in partnership with Delaware State Parks, is located at 3000 Creek Road (Route 82) in Yorklyn. Ice Cream Social Rides Tickets include four rides in the antique autos or Auburn Valley Railroad at $10 for ages 13 and up, and $7 for ages 2 to 11. Children under 2 are admitted free. The Mansion Ticket includes a tour of the first floor of the Auburn Heights mansion for $10 for all ages. The Combo Ticket covers it all – rides and mansion at $15 for ages 13 and up, $12 ages 2 to 12; children under 2 are free. Ice cream treats are available for an additional charge.

 

Discounts are offered for groups of 20 or more when booked in advance. Group tour information is available via e-mail at admin@auburnheights.org or from the Friends of Auburn Heights Preserve office at 302-239-2385.
