Authors on Hand for Fort Delaware Book Signing

DELAWARE CITY - Authors Laura Lee and Brendan Mackie will be on hand at the Fort Delaware gift shop in Delaware City to sign copies of their new book, Images of America – Fort Delaware, on Monday, Sept. 6 from 3 until 5 p.m.  The gift shop, also known as the Civil War Shop, is located at the dock at 45 Clinton Street.

The book, which retails for $21.99, is a pictorial record of Fort Delaware’s history.  It tells the story of the fort during its active duty, its rescue from abandonment and its subsequent successful preservation work.  It is one of the latest in the Images of America series from Arcadia Publishing.  The series captures the history of hometowns and historic sites through pictures with extensive captions that relate the story of the locale.

During the Civil War, Fort Delaware housed thousands of Confederate prisoners of war.   The fort presents first-person living history presentations based on actual historical research of the people who lived and worked on the island.  Programs present the daily lives of Union soldiers, Confederate prisoners and civilians.

Fort Delaware is accessed via ferry from the dock on Clinton Street in Delaware City.  Reservations may be made by calling 1-877-987-2757 or visiting www.destateparks.com.  More information about Fort Delaware’s schedule and group tour opportunities is available at 302-834-7941.
