Body of missing Townsend man recovered from Blackbird Creek
DOVER (July 23, 2012) – A body recovered Sunday morning from Black Bird Creek by DNREC Fish & Wildlife Enforcement has been identified as that of a 45-year-old Townsend man who earlier had been reported missing.
John H. Fisher had gone crabbing in his boat on nearby Blackbird Creek Friday evening. His family reported him to Fish & Wildlife Enforcement early Saturday morning as overdue in returning home.
Delaware State Police helicopter unit, Fish & Wildlife Enforcement’s canine unit and the Townsend and Port Penn Fire Companies searched continuously until Mr. Fisher’s body was found near his boat about 11 a.m. Sunday. He was not wearing a life jacket, according to DNREC Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Sgt. Greg Rhodes, nor was there a life jacket in his boat, which was upright on the water.
The body was turned over to the Delaware Medical Examiner’s Office for determining cause of death.
