Calling all volunteers:
Take a walk on the wild side with the Division of Fish and Wildlife!
DOVER (March 25, 2011) – Spring is here and the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife has opportunities for you to volunteer and spend some quality time outdoors.
The Division’s Wildlife Section is looking volunteers to assist with on-site projects in wildlife areas such as painting, invasive plant removal, cleanups, wildlife surveys, habitat restoration, nest box construction/maintenance, landscaping and more throughout the state. Projects vary and are available for both individuals and volunteer groups, ages youth to adult.
In addition, the Division’s Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program will soon be seeking volunteers to help with a variety of spring, summer and fall programs, including monitoring migratory shorebirds and protecting piping plover nesting sites in the beach area, and monitoring osprey nests, recording breeding bird activity and counting bats in colonies statewide. The early spring frog calling survey is already underway. Training announcements and other information will be posted on the volunteer website listed below.
Additional volunteer opportunities can be found in the Division’s educational programs, including work with the DuPont Nature Center near Milford and the Aquatic Resources Education Center near Smyrna, and in the Delaware Hunter/Trapper Education, Boating Education and Adopt-A-Wetland programs.
