Cape Henlopen’s Children’s Fantasy Trail Celebrates 20 Years

LEWES, Del.  - Cape Henlopen State Park celebrates Halloween with the 20th Anniversary Children’s Fantasy Trail. The park’s Seaside Interpretive Trail will once again be transformed with characters from children’s favorite story books and fairy tales. Jack-o’-lanterns will light the way, while hand-painted backdrops and costumed characters bring the stories to life.

Parents are invited to bring their favorite costumed trick-or-treaters to the Seaside Nature Center to get candy and toys from Snow White, Captain Hook and many others. The Children’s Fantasy Trail will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25 and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. Admission to the trail is $5 per person and includes such activities as jugglers, a magician, clowns and songsters under an outdoor tent.

In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Children’s Fantasy Trail, and the new characters that have been added this year, park staff is unveiling exciting new programs. Each team that enters the Great Pumpkin Carving Contest at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 will carve its way to two free passes for the Fantasy Trail and a chance to win a two-night cabin stay at Trap Pond State Park! The entrance fee for the pumpkin carving contest is $20 per team. Visitors to the trail on Saturday and Sunday will get a chance to vote for their favorite giant jack-o’-lanterns.

Visitors who attended a pre-Halloween program, or who just stop by the Seaside Nature Center, will have a chance to win one of five Golden Tickets for free admission to the Fantasy Trail for the winner and one family member. More information on the Children’s Fantasy Trail and other programs is available by calling the Seaside Nature Center at 302-645-6852.

Through the years, dozens of volunteers have helped make the Children’s Fantasy Trail an outstanding family event for the community. Park staff still needs help and asks anyone who would like to volunteer to be a character, carve pumpkins to line the trail, or bake a ghoulish treat to contact the Seaside Nature Center at 302-645-6852.
