Cape Henlopen State Park Community Safety Day– targeting outdoor safety - set for April 24

On Saturday, April 24, Cape Henlopen State Park and the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension will partner once again to present the second annual Cape Henlopen State Park Community Safety Day. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.

The event is aimed at educating the public about a variety of safety issues from everyday wellness to environmental hazards that may be encountered while exploring the outdoors.

“Last year’s event was a huge success, and we anticipate this event to be even bigger,” said Cape Henlopen State Park Ranger Cpl. Andrew Manning, “We have added many more public safety organizations and more hand-on demonstrations this year.”

Among the safety topics covered will be fire and home, outdoor, traffic, pedestrian, bicycle, water and boating, pet, and seatbelt safety.  Participating organizations include local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, local fire departments and EMS personnel, Beebe Hospital, the Boy Scouts of America, the Delaware Surfrider Foundation, the MERR Institute, DelDOT and many others.

The event will be held in the main bathhouse parking lot at Cape Henlopen State Park. While the event itself is free, the public must pay the park admission fee to attend: $4 for in-state residents and $8 for out-of-state residents. Vendors and interactive displays will be offered.
