Cape Henlopen State Park Hosts Volunteer Event in Honor of National Youth Service Day
LEWES, Del. - Cape Henlopen State Park will hold a volunteer event in honor of National Youth Service Day from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 27. Youth ages 10 to 25 are invited to mark the day by improving the park through a variety of fun and rewarding service projects. Participants receive a free t-shirt. Refreshments will be served at 4 p.m. after the completion of the projects.
Volunteers of all skill levels can participate in construction, beach clean-up, trail maintenance, gardening, painting, environmental management, and much more. To ensure adequate supplies and projects, pre-registration is required for groups of 10 or more, and is recommended for individual volunteers. Participants will meet at the Main Pavilion near the beach bathhouse at noon.
Youth Service Day gives young people an opportunity to learn new skills, foster a life-long ethic of service and have fun with peers. Volunteers’ efforts will help protect, preserve, and maintain the park’s natural environment. While Youth Service Day focuses on young volunteers, the park extends the invitation to the entire community.
Cape Henlopen State Park is located one mile east of Lewes, 1/2 mile past the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal. The park features hiking and biking, a World War II Coastal Defense site, camping, sunbathing and swimming, and more.
