Celebrate Thanksgiving at Cape Henlopen State Park

LEWES (Nov. 19) - The staff at Cape Henlopen State Park invites families to visit the park this Thanksgiving holiday.  Visitors will enjoy three family programs in addition to a variety of walking and biking trails.

In Waterfowl Adventure on Friday, Nov. 26 at 11 a.m., a park naturalist will present tips on how to identify ducks and seabirds, and then will lead a walk to key spots in the park to see them. This program will be held at the Seaside Nature Center and costs $2 per person.

On Saturday, Nov. 27, two different programs will be offered. Critters of the Cape at the Nature Center at 11 a.m. features a discussion about the native and non-native animals that have adapted to life at the shore. The program fee is $2 per person.

Later on Saturday, visitors can join an historical interpreter and tour the Fort Miles Battery 519 Museum at 2 p.m. to learn about the history of this World War II coastal defense base and hear about plans to renovate this historic site. The program cost is $5 per person and begins at the Fort Miles Orientation Building. Park entrance fees are in effect through the end of November.

Space for these family programs is limited, and pre-registration is required. Registration and information is available by calling 302-645-6852.
