Changes in Lifeguard Hours for Labor Day Weekend Announced
DOVER (Aug. 23, 2011) – Changes in the hours and locations where swimming beaches in Delaware State Parks are guarded have been announced by DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation. Beginning Monday, Aug. 29 through Friday, Sept. 2, lifeguard hours will be reduced by one hour to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, guarded swimming areas will be reduced and limited in size.
Guarded beaches include: Cape Henlopen State Park’s main swimming beach and Delaware Seashore State Park’s South Side of Inlet swimming beach.
Delaware Seashore State Park’s Tower Road swimming beach and Fenwick Island State Park’s main swimming beach will be unguarded Monday, Aug. 29 through Friday, Sept. 2, but will be guarded Saturday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 5 (Labor Day).
Over the busy Labor Day holiday weekend, lifeguard hours will resume their regular schedule, from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. from Saturday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 5 (Labor Day).
Gordons Pond beach at Cape Henlopen State Park will remain unguarded.
Hours reductions were necessary as a result of lifeguards leaving the area for college and school sports camps.
