Changes in Lifeguard Hours for Labor Day Weekend Announced
Changes in the hours that swimming beaches in Delaware State Parks are guarded have been announced by DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation. Beginning Monday, Aug. 25 through Friday, Aug. 29, lifeguard hours will be reduced by one hour to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
However, over the busy Labor Day holiday weekend, lifeguard hours will resume their regular schedule, from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. from Saturday, Aug. 30 through Monday, Sept. 1 (Labor Day).
Guarded beaches include: Cape Henlopen’s main swimming beach; Delaware Seashore State Park’s Tower Road swimming beach and the Southeast Day Use swimming beach (on the south side of Indian River Inlet); and Fenwick Island’s main swimming beach.
According to Cpl. Bryan John, Beach & Water Safety Supervisor for the Division of Parks and Recreation, this is the first time in 15 years that four of the five swimming beaches in Delaware’s State Parks’ ocean parks have been guarded over the Labor Day holiday. Gordons Pond remains the only unguarded ocean beach swimming area.
