Citizens Source Water Protection Committee to meet March 24
The Source Water Protection Citizens and Technical Advisory Committee (CTAC) of the Source Water Assessment and Protection Program will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 24 in Conference Room 220 A&B of the Kent County Administrative Offices on Bay Road in Dover.
The agenda includes:
• Program update by John Barndt of DNREC’s Source Water Assessment and Protection Program;
• Drinking Water State Revolving Fund update and results of the Office of Drinking Water sampling for pharmaceuticals in drinking water by Ed Hallock, DHSS – ODW;
• Peter McLaughlin of the Delaware Geological Survey will update the groundwater availability of Sussex County;
• Update by Betsy Reyes of the U.S. Geological Survey on the USGS sampling of public wells in the unconfined aquifer;
• Martha Corrozi Narvaez and Jerry Kauffman of University of Delaware Water Resources Agency will provide an update of the Christina Basin Pollution Control Strategy; and
• Public comment and question and answer session.
Delaware’s Source Water Assessment Plan was approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in October 1999. The program is charged with delineating source water areas around all sources of public drinking water in the state, identifying all existing and potential sources of contamination within those areas and making the information available to the public.
