Commercial Clammer Fined for Clamming Violations
DNREC Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Agents on Aug. 14 cited a commercial clammer who was caught in Collins Creek near Ocean View clamming at night in a closed area, both of which are against the law.
Thomas Milligan, age 36, of 32229 Windmill Drive, Ocean View, was arrested and charged with two counts of commercial clamming in a closed area, clamming at night and operating a vessel without navigation lights.
Milligan was taken to Justice of the Peace Court 1 in Frankford, pled guilty to all charges and was fined $306 and released.
“DNREC's Shellfish and Recreational Water Program monitors clamming areas to protect public health, so it is very important that commercial clammers use approved areas to clam. When they don’t, they get arrested,” said Sgt. Gregory Rhodes of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement.
