Community Involvement Advisory Council meeting set for April 20 in Odessa

The next meeting of the Community Involvement Advisory Council (CIAC) will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 20 at the Appoquinimink District Training Center, Room 138, 118 South 6th Street, Odessa. The meeting location was changed from the Smyrna Rest Stop to the Appoquinimink District Training Center.

The agenda will include:

• 2010 Grant Recommendations

   New Castle County
  -Bear Babe Ruth
  -Edgemoor Revitalization Cooperative
  -Transportation Management Association

   Kent County
  -Dover Kent County Metropolitan Planning Organization

   Sussex County
  -Delaware Center for Horticulture
  -Nature Conservancy
  -City of Rehoboth Beach Urban Forest Assessment

• Community Ombudsman Report
  -Claymont Community Meeting on March 22
  -Eden/Hamilton Park Meeting on March 29
  -Star Hill Update
  -Capitol Park Fish Consumption Advisories

• Open Forum

The CIAC and the Community Ombudsman work to increase the flow of information between communities and the department, increase community participation and facilitate dialogue among all stakeholders during the decision-making process.

The CIAC was established by Senate Bill 33 as a permanent council serving in an advisory capacity to the Secretary of DNREC. The legislation charged the CIAC to deal with interactions between the Department and local communities. The Community Ombudsman position was also authorized by the same legislation.
