Conservation cost-share applications due by Aug. 13

The Kent and Sussex Conservation Districts will continue to accept applications for cost-sharing assistance on conservation practices, including cover crops, through Friday, Aug 13.  The District offices are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  This is the only sign-up period for this program, and it will not be extended.  All applications will be ranked based on need and funding availability.

Eligible conservation practices include cover crops, manure storage structures, poultry composters, heavy use area protection, poultry windbreaks, poultry incinerators, agricultural waste systems, wildlife habitat ponds, vegetative shoreline stabilizations, water management, and more. These conservation practices have many positive environmental benefits such as reducing excess nutrients, improving ground water quality and preventing soil erosion.

Sussex County landowners may apply in person at the USDA Service Center located at 21315 Berlin Road, Unit 4, in Georgetown.  Kent County landowners may apply in person at the USDA Service Center located at 800 Bay Road, Suite 2, in Dover.

If you have any questions, please call the conservation district in your county:  in Kent County call 302-741-2600, ext. 3; in Sussex County call 302-856-3990, ext. 3. All District programs and services are available on a nondiscriminatory basis.
