                   Programs
Featured at the Great Green Expo

The latest information on energy efficiency and renewable energy programs for Delaware residents and businesses will be showcased at DNREC’s Delaware Energy Office’s exhibit 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday, March 21 at the Great Green Expo at the Chase Center in Wilmington. The Delaware Energy Office is the primary sponsor of the expo, the first event in Delaware to highlight government programs, organizations and businesses that offer “green” solutions in energy efficiency and conservation, renewable energy, pollution prevention and sustainable practices.

According to Scott Lynch, program planner with the Delaware Energy Office, students 12 years old through college can receive free admission by showing student identification and the free expo coupon downloaded from via the Energy Office at DNREC’s website, www.dnrec.delaware.gov, or by presenting identification and mentioning the DNREC Delaware Energy Office at the admission gate. “The expo is a wonderful opportunity for students to see the latest in green technologies. The Delaware Energy Office is offering the free admission to encourage young people to attend and learn more about green activities and programs.”

The Delaware Energy Office’s exhibit will feature information on the ways to save money on heating and electric costs, as well as resources available to homeowners and businesses to improve energy efficiency through upgrades in windows, insulation and lighting. Four lucky homeowners will receive free home energy audits, which will be raffled at the expo.

Details and information will also be available on the Delaware Green Energy Fund, the program that provides cash incentives to Delawareans for installing renewable energy systems that generate heat and electricity, including solar electric systems (photovoltaic), solar thermal water heaters, geothermal heat pumps, and wind turbines. Visitors can gather information on the program, determine the type of systems that works best for them, and learn how to find a contractor to do the work.

“Our exhibit will include easy energy savings ideas for your home and business that can make a big difference in reducing energy and saving money on your energy bill." Lynch of the DNREC Delaware Energy Office said. "We encourage people to visit our booth, gather the information they need, and be inspired to take steps towards energy-efficiency.”

Energy education sessions, led by renewable energy contractors, will be offered throughout the day. The sessions will bring attendees face-to-face with industry professionals for frank discussions on the costs and benefits of renewable energy systems.

Outside the Chase Center, alternative fuel vehicles – the DNREC compressed natural gas pickup truck; the new electric Scion (EBox), which will demonstrate vehicle to grid technology; the University of Delaware fuel cell bus; and the SmartCar hybrid vehicle – will be demonstrated and available for guided tours throughout the day.

T-REX, a solar trailer used for emergency and disaster relief, will be demonstrated. The trailer can deploy solar panels, batteries, and a propane generator to provide electricity under conditions where normal sources of electricity are not available. Guided tours of the T-REX will demonstrate how solar energy panels work.
