DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife announces
2015 Delaware Fishing Photo Contest winners

DOVER (Nov. 30, 2015) – DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife today announced the five top entries chosen from its 2015 Delaware Fishing Photo Contest. The winning photos will appear on the cover or inside the forthcoming 2016 Delaware Fishing Guide.

First place was awarded to Steve Rosemary of Lewes, for his photo titled “My First Catch!” of his granddaughter Cyena Williams surf fishing in the ocean at Cape Henlopen State Park.

The other contest winners are:

  • Second place: “Ella Evercasting,” by Amy Baldwin of Newark, for her photo of her daughter Ella casting her surf fishing rod at Delaware Seashore State Park.
  • Honorable mention: “Red, White and Bluegills,” by Randy Piascinski of Townsend, for his 4th of July photo of his daughter Paige with the bluegill she caught at Noxontown Pond near Townsend.
  • Honorable mention: “First Catch,” by Craig Rhoads portraying his daughter Avery with the black sea bass she caught while fishing in Rehoboth Bay.
  • Honorable mention: “Fishing Cousins,” by Steve Rosemary of Lewes, of Ayden Williams and Addison Varney working as a team to control their surf fishing rod at Cape Henlopen State Park.

Three judges – Division of Fish & Wildlife Director David Saveikis, and local photographers Tony Pratt and Freda Barrett, both DNREC employees – selected the top five entries. The contest specified that photographs must have been taken in Delaware and depict anglers participating in fishing activities.

Judges were looking for photos that best portrayed this year’s contest theme, “Anglers in Action,” which carried a lot of photographic consideration from the judges in selecting winning entries.

“Our fishing photo contest encourages anglers of all ages to participate in healthy outdoor recreation, especially children, who are the next generation of conservationists,” Director Saveikis said. “These images portray anglers enjoying Delaware’s great outdoors, and we hope they will inspire others to enjoy the great sport of fishing. We encourage other Delaware photographers to enter next year’s contest to capture the angling experience.”

The Division of Fish & Wildlife’s annual Delaware Hunting Photo Contest is accepting entries through Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016. Information and forms are available on the Division of Fish & Wildlife’s website or may be requested by calling Lynne Pusey at 302-735-3600, or email

The details of the Division of Fish & Wildlife’s 2016 Fishing Photo Contest will be announced in the spring.
