DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife
announces wildlife exhibits at 2011 Delaware State Fair
HARRINGTON (July 21, 2011) – Visitors to the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife’s exhibit at the 2011 Delaware State Fair – opening today – will have a wild time seeing, hearing and getting up close with some of Delaware’s familiar and not-so-familiar wildlife species.
The air-conditioned wildlife room in the DNREC Building is designed to imitate several of Delaware’s natural habitats, taking adults and children of all ages on a small-scale tour of the state, from the Delaware Bay to the inland forests and millponds. Last year, the exhibit drew more than 30,000 visitors over the 10 days of the Fair.
This year, wildlife staff expects the wild menagerie to include Northern bobwhite quail, ruddy ducks, American wigeon, bullfrogs, box turtles, raccoons, turkeys and native fish. In addition, the popular touch tank will be back, featuring horseshoe crabs.
In addition, look for the Division’s 100th anniversary banner and posters with historic photos and timelines in the wildlife room, as the Division celebrates a century of fish and wildlife conservation by reflecting on the past and moving into the future.
The DNREC Building’s changing exhibit space, adjoining the wildlife display, will feature all-new displays and interactive activities this year, including the Energy Smart House.
The DNREC Building is located at the north end of the Fairgrounds near the 4-H Building and across from the tractor displays. The building will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. on preview night Thursday, July 21, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 22 through Saturday, July 30.
