DNREC issues penalty order to Formosa Plastics
Corporation of Delaware for air quality violations
DOVER (Nov. 25, 2013) – DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara has issued a Notice of Administrative Penalty Assessment and Secretary’s Order to Formosa Plastics Corporation of Delaware for violations of federal air quality regulations and of the company’s air permit. The order calls for a cash penalty of $23,460 and an additional $3,519 as cost recovery reimbursement to DNREC for expenses associated with the department’s investigation.
Formosa Plastics Corp. of Delaware owns and operates a facility located at 780 Schoolhouse Road in Delaware City, where it produces polyvinyl chloride resin from vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and vinyl acetate monomer. VCM is a hazardous air pollutant.
The Secretary’s Order addresses air quality violations that have occurred between January and May of 2013. Each violation is cited in the penalty order, which can be found on the DNREC website at http://www.dnrec.delaware.gov/Info/Pages/SecOrders_Enforcement.aspx.
Formosa Plastics Corp. of Delaware has 30 days to request a public hearing.
