DNREC seeks volunteers for Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area project on Jan. 15 

DOVER (Dec. 27, 2011) – The DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife is looking for volunteers to help with removing invasive English ivy at the Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15.

English ivy vines are stifling native wildlife habitat at this Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area site by climbing trees and creating a ground cover. Volunteers will be using hand saws, pruners and loppers to remove ivy vines.

The Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area is located east of Smyrna. Volunteers should plan to meet at the first parking lot on the right on Deakyneville Road. A map and directions are available by clicking on the calendar of events at

Work gloves, hand saws and loppers will be provided, but volunteers may also bring their own. Volunteers for this project must be at least 15 years old. Those under the age of 18 must provide a parental consent form, which also can be found on the website.
