DNREC to hold public workshops statewide in January
on universal recycling for multi-family complexes
DOVER (Jan. 4, 2011) – DNREC’s Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Section will hold six public workshops in January throughout the state to inform and answer questions about single-stream recycling services for apartments, condominiums and other multi-family dwellings in Delaware that have centralized community trash collection services.
Under the Universal Recycling Law, all solid waste haulers in Delaware must provide single-stream recycling collection services to their multi-family residential customers with centralized services no later than January 1, 2013. Multi-family dwellings or complexes that have individual trash collection for each residential unit were subject to a September 15, 2011 deadline for single-family recycling services.
Managers and owners of multi-family complexes with centralized collection services are encouraged to attend one of the workshops to learn about the single-stream multi-family recycling program and the responsibilities of a complex’s management and their waste haulers.
A toolkit with educational outreach options, including suggested materials for informing residents of the recycling program and how to participate, will be available at the workshops. The toolkit materials include a multi-unit residential recycling plan and waste generation and recyclable collection worksheet to help managers develop recycling plans for their buildings in cooperation with their waste haulers.
