DNREC to host ASMFC hearing on Jan. 10 seeking public comment
on 2014 management options for black sea bass, summer flounder
DOVER (Jan. 8, 2014) – The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will host an Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission public hearing at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 to gather public comment on 2014 management options for black sea bass and summer flounder. The hearing will be held in the DNREC Auditorium at 89 Kings Highway in Dover.
Summer flounder and black sea bass fisheries are managed cooperatively by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC), the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (MAFMC), and the National Marine Fisheries Service through the Summer Flounder, Scup and Black Sea Bass Fishery Management Plan. ASMFC is considering an addendum to the plan to ensure equitable harvest opportunities for summer flounder and provide regional management options for black sea bass.
Among the measures being considered in the draft addendum are several summer flounder management options (season, size and possession limits), including coastwide measures, state-by-state conservation equivalency alternatives, and adaptive regional management approaches. Coastwide or regional management measure options also are being considered for black sea bass.
Anglers and other interested groups are encouraged to provide input on the draft addendum by attending the public hearing or by providing written comment. Written comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, and should be sent to Kirby Rootes-Murdy, Fishery Management Plan Coordinator, 1050 N. Highland St., Suite 200 A-N, Arlington, VA 22201; faxed to 703-842-0741 or emailed to email@example.com, subject line: Draft Addendum XXV.
