 DNREC Employee Arrested

Division of Parks and Recreation Enforcement Officers arrested a DNREC employee Wednesday, April 30 after an internal investigation led to his indictment by the Sussex County Grand Jury on Monday, April 28.

Waynesley Simon Jr., 26, of Georgetown, Del., was charged with one felony count of theft, one felony count of unlawful use of a credit card and one misdemeanor count of theft.

Simon was brought before JP Court 2 in Sussex County on April 30 and released on $3,000 secured bond pending arraignment in Superior Court.

The indictment and arrest followed an investigation by Division of Parks and Recreation Enforcement Officers after a review of recent Fleet Fuelman Gas Records indicated possible fraudulent activity.

The investigation was reviewed with the Attorney General’s Office, which led to the case being presented to the Grand Jury and the indictment.

The employee has been placed on administrative leave.
