DNREC Secretary issues Coastal Zone Act permit
to MAGCO Inc. of Claymont
Under the authority of the Coastal Zone Act and the Regulations Governing Delaware’s Coastal Zone, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Collin P. O’Mara has issued a Coastal Zone Act permit to MAGCO, Inc. to relocate its existing sea salt packaging operation from 6200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont to 341 Pigeon Point Road, New Castle.
On May 13, 2009, MAGCO, Inc. submitted a permit application to the Department for the relocation and expansion of its facility to the Pigeon Point Road site, and a public hearing was held Sept. 8. The anticipated environmental impacts are primarily air emissions from the expansion of the drying and packaging operation which the company will offset with air credits obtained from the Delaware Economic Development Office.
An application to appeal this decision must be filed with the State Coastal Zone Industrial Board before Nov. 9, 2009. An application fee of $100 is required. To obtain an appeal form, contact Gail Henderson at 302-739-9909. If an appeal is not filed before Nov. 9, the decision becomes final.
The Delaware Coastal Zone Act Program regulates existing heavy industrial activities, as well as new and existing manufacturing activities in Delaware’s Coastal Zone through a status decision and permit process.
