DNREC’s next scrap tire recycling drop-off set for
Saturday, May 16 at Delaware State Fairgrounds
DOVER (May 14, 2015) – DNREC is rolling out another opportunity for Delaware residents to recycle their old tires at a Scrap Tire Drop-Off Day. The next event is scheduled from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., rain or shine, Saturday, May 16 at the Delaware State Fairgrounds, 18500 S. DuPont Highway Harrington, DE 19952.
The scrap tire drop-off events enable Delaware residents to bring up to 10 passenger car or light duty truck tires from their households for recycling. Scrap tires from businesses, commercial dealers, large truck or equipment tires, or tires on rims will not be accepted. The scrap tire recycling events are limited to Delaware residents and require proof of residency in the form of a driver’s license or utility bill.
DNREC’s Solid & Hazardous Waste Management Section implements the state’s scrap tire management program. The program, currently responsible for removing large and unsightly scrap tire piles throughout the state, will soon include a scrap tire pile compliance program. Scrap tire piles can create environmental hazards, blight the landscape and contribute to increasing mosquito populations. Careful management and proper disposal of such scrap tire piles helps minimize the problems they pose when left littering a community.
For more information regarding the Scrap Tire Drop-Off Day, for assistance with removing a qualifying scrap tire pile from your property, or to learn more about scrap tire management in the state, visit DNREC’s website, www.awm.delaware.gov/Info/Pages/ScrapTire.aspx or contact the Scrap Tire Management Program at 302-739-9403, option 3.
