Delaware State Parks Summer Camps Filling Fast

DOVER (May 21, 2012) – There are currently a limited number of spaces still available in Delaware State Parks summer day camps throughout the state.  State park day camps offer families safe, supervised educational and recreational opportunities for children during summer vacation.  Camps also promote healthy lifestyles by getting children outdoors enjoying nature.

Half-day camps for four- to six-year-olds with various nature themes are offered, as well as full-day camps for six- to 14-year-olds.  Bellevue State Park offers a full line-up of art-themed camps to complement the park’s camps devoted to nature study.  Many camps offer before and after care.

For older youth who still love summer camp, some parks offer Counselor In Training (CIT) camps for 13- to 17-year-olds.  These camps teach participants the skills necessary to be successful camp counselors. CITs will learn first aid and how to canoe, and lead hikes and nature activities. CITs are strongly encouraged to volunteer for additional weeks of camp as Volunteer Counselors.

Summer day camp sizes are limited in order to keep counselor-to-camper ratios small.  The knowledgeable staff, variety of subjects and the small size make these camps very popular.  Dates, fees and registration information are available at destateparks.com/summer-camp or from the individual parks listed below.
