 Delaware State Parks to offer Kids to Parks Day
National Park Trust’s nationwide day of play May 17

DOVER (May 14, 2014) – Delaware State Parks, along with children, families, teachers, cities and towns are gearing up for this year's Kids to Parks Day, a nationwide day of outdoor play to be held this Saturday, May 17. The idea behind Kids to Parks Day and helping children discover the outdoors coincides with Delaware State Parks Delaware Outdoor Family programs in conjunction with the Children In Nature initiative. 

Delaware State Parks has many family-friendly programs planned to get kids outdoors and exploring nature this weekend and many other weekends throughout the year. 

Trap Pond State Park in Laurel will host a Delaware Outdoor Family Campout, where families can learn to camp, cook over a fire and explore the pond on a pontoon boat eco-tour.  

Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes will offer a Hide and Seek Geocaching program for ages 7 and up.  Participants will use a GPS to find hidden caches and learn how animals hide in nature.  Delaware Breakwater Kayak Eco-Tours are also available Saturday, May 17. 

Lums Pond State Park in Bear, along with the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife, will host Take a Kid Fishing on Saturday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Children and young teens will learn about fishing and the importance of conservation.   

Alapocas Run State Park in Wilmington will offer Introduction to Outdoor Rock Climbing from 1 to 3 p.m. for ages 8 and up.  Park staff will instruct and guide all climbers after a brief introduction on safety.
