Delaware adopts date changes
in recreational black sea bass season

DOVER (Sept. 23, 2015) – DNREC Secretary David Small has signed a Secretary’s Order that formally adopts an open season for Delaware’s recreational black sea bass fishery that ran May 15 through Sept. 21, and from Oct. 22 through Dec. 31. The changes keep Delaware’s tidal finfish regulations consistent with final federal recreational black sea bass season regulations published in June.

The minimum size limit remains 12.5 inches and the daily possession limit remains at 15 black sea bass. No black sea bass may be retained from Jan. 1 through May 14 and from Sept. 22 through Oct. 21. The Secretary’s Order is posted online at Black Sea Bass Order.

A black sea bass management region extending from Delaware through North Carolina is recognized by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s summer flounder, scup, and black sea bass Interstate Fisheries Management Plan. Other states in this management region also have adopted these changes.

For more information on fishing in Delaware, click on 2015 Delaware Fishing Guide. The guide also is available in printed form at DNREC’s Dover licensing desk in the Richardson & Robbins Building, 89 Kings Highway, Dover, and from license agents throughout the state. Anglers should note that the online guide has been updated to reflect the black sea bass changes, but the changes are not included in the printed copies.

For more information on black sea bass season, call DNREC’s Fisheries Section at 302-739-9914.
