Delaware to extend recreational black sea
bass  season by three days through Sept. 21

DOVER (Sept. 18, 2014) – The early recreational black sea bass season will be extended for three days, remaining open Friday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 21, DNREC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife announced today. The Division is making the change so that Delaware’s black sea bass regulations will match federal black sea bass regulations, as is required of southern region states from Delaware to North Carolina.

The federal regulations, set by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries, extended the season after it was determined that the season could be lengthened by three days and still meet the required reduction in black sea bass landings. In February 2014, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission approved measures that will continue the effective regional management approach for black sea bass for another year.

After the early season closes, the recreational black sea bass season will reopen Saturday, Oct. 18, and remain open until the end of the year.

For more information on the black sea bass season extension, visit the DNREC website's Fisheries News, or call the Fisheries Section at 302-739-9914.
