Delaware Seashore State Park to host 29th Annual Sandcastle Contest

REHOBOTH BEACH - Delaware Seashore State Park is hosting the 29th Annual Sandcastle Contest from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11. Sandcastle enthusiasts and amateurs are invited to join in the summer fun and compete for prizes generously donated by local businesses from Fenwick Island to the beaches of Bethany, Dewey and Rehoboth. This year’s donated prizes range from books, food, clothing, and gift certificates to toys, boogie boards, and even some overnight stays in a woodsy cabin or local hotel.

The contest is held on the beach at the South Inlet Day Area located just south of the Indian River Bridge. A panel of judges will evaluate the entries based on skill, creativity and use of natural materials. Prize-winners will be announced at approximately 2 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded in two separate team categories, a 12-and-under category and an all-ages category, with teams comprised of up to five participants. Those who wish to observe this event from the sidelines are encouraged to attend.

The contest is free to the public, but standard state park entrance fees of $4 for Delaware-registered vehicles and $8 for out-of-state vehicles do apply. A registration tent for team contestants will be set up on the beach just prior to the start of the event. In the case of rain, the contest will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 18

More information is available by calling the Indian River Life-saving Station Museum at 302-227-6991.
