Delaware State Parks Announces Results of Lifeguard Olympics

 

The Delaware State Parks Beach Patrol held its annual Inter-Park Lifeguard Olympics on Aug. 3 at Delaware Seashore State Park. Fifty lifeguards who have guarded the beaches at Delaware’s ocean parks this summer competed in eight events - landline rescue, run-swim-run relay, one mile team run, two team relay rescue race, iron man medley, quarter mile paddle relay, 4x4 100-yard sprints and the beach flag event.

The results of the Olympics are as follows:

1st Place – Indian River Inlet Beach Patrol, Delaware Seashore State Park
2nd Place – Tower Road Beach Patrol, Delaware Seashore State Park
3rd Place – Cape Henlopen Beach Patrol, Cape Henlopen State Park
4th Place – Fenwick Lot Beach Patrol, Fenwick Island State Park 

The following lifeguards received awards:

Co-Rookies of the Year
Aaron Baker of Dover, Cape Henlopen Beach Patrol, attends Weidner University School of Law
Tommy Monroe of Millsboro, Fenwick Lot Beach Patrol, attends Houghton College, New York

Lifeguards of the Year
J.T. Norton of Lewes, Cape Henlopen Beach Patrol, attends Cape Henlopen High School
Andrea Cole of Felton, Tower Road Beach Patrol, attends Washington College, Maryland
Kris Knutsen of Lewes, Indian River Inlet Beach Patrol, Sussex County Paramedic
David Baker of Bel Air, Maryland, Fenwick Island Beach Patrol, attends University of Delaware 

Supervisory Award
Lifeguard Captain Adam Johnson of Georgetown, Indian River Inlet Beach Patrol, attends Delaware State University.
