Delaware State Parks announces opening of 2010 summer camp registration

DOVER – Delaware State Parks offers summer day camps throughout the state, from Bellevue State Park in Wilmington to Cape Henlopen in Lewes, and plenty in between. Half-day camps for 4- to 6-year-olds with various nature themes are offered, as well as full-day camps for 6- to 14-year-olds. Many camps offer before and after care.

For older youth who still love summer camp, a Counselor In Training (CIT) camp is offered at Bellevue State Park for 13- to 16-year-olds. The camp teaches participants the skills necessary to be successful camp counselors. CITs will learn first aid, how to canoe, and lead hikes and nature activities. CITs are strongly encouraged to volunteer for additional weeks of camp as volunteer counselors.

Summer day camp sizes are limited in order to keep counselor-to-camper ratios small. The knowledgeable staff, variety of subjects and the small size make these camps very popular, so parents are encouraged to register children early.

Registration is now being accepted at all participating parks except the Brandywine Zoo, which opens registration on Saturday, Feb. 27, and Cape Henlopen State Park, which opens registration on Monday, March 1.

Dates, fees and registration information are available at www.destateparks.com/programs/summer-camps, or from the individual parks listed below.
