Discover Fort Miles and Battery 519 in Cape Henlopen State Park

LEWES (Jan 8, 2013) – On Saturday, Jan. 19, the Fort Miles Historic Area in Cape Henlopen State Parks will be the place to be for tours of Battery 519, an underground gun emplacement used during World War II. Visitors will learn about Fort Miles and see the ongoing restoration of this historic structure. Tours will meet at the Fort Miles Orientation Building at 10:30 a.m., noon, and 1:30 p.m.

Even during the darkest of nights, the soldiers of Fort Miles had to be prepared to engage the enemy. On Jan. 26, a Lantern Tour of Fort Miles will show how soldiers coped with the darkness and prepared for battle. The Lantern Tour will begin at the Fort Miles Orientation Building at 5:30 p.m.

The fee for each program is $5 per person, and pre-registration is required. Additional information and registration are available at 302-645-6852

More information about programs at Fort Miles and the Seaside Nature Center in Cape Henlopen State Park is available at destateparks.com.  Fort Miles is open during public programs. The Seaside Nature Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday during the winter.
