Discover Port Penn, Delaware
PORT PENN, Del. – Tucked away along the Delaware River, Port Penn exemplifies the history and culture of Delaware’s maritime communities. Staff at the Port Penn Interpretive Center has planned a series of exciting programs to deliver the story of Port Penn to visitors of all ages.
Families can come to the center, located on Route 9, just north of Augustine Beach, at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12 and experience the creepers and swimmers of the wetlands firsthand in Marsh Madness. A hike is included in the program.
On Sunday, July 20 at 3 p.m., history buffs will enjoy a walking tour of the historic homes located in the town that founders believed would rival Philadelphia as a port and center of trade.
And, anyone who has ever wondered why scrapple and muskrat are such Delaware delicacies will want to hear author Ed Okonowicz discuss America’s regional foods, particularly the cuisine most identified with Delmarva in Foodlore- Scrapple, Muskrat, and More!, at 7 p.m., Friday, July 18 at 7 p.m. This program is for ages 10 and older.
