Division of Fish and Wildlife to Hold Aug. 25 Public Hearing on Wildlife Regulation Updates

The DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife will hold a public hearing to review wildlife regulation updates beginning at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 25 at the DNREC Auditorium in the Richardson and Robbins Building, 89 Kings Highway, Dover.

Regulation updates and amendments under consideration are as follows:

  • Wildlife Regulation 20 would require that all domestically raised quail, chukar partridge, Hungarian partridge and pheasants released into the wild be fitted with a Division-approved leg band, to help with monitoring wild bird mortality and coordinate management efforts; a free permit from the Division would be required to release these birds.

  • Wildlife Regulation 21 would define the requirements for a Delaware hunting guide license.

  • Amendment to Wildlife Regulation 3.0 would establish a special one-day waterfowl hunt for youth and disabled hunters, minimum age 10; and prohibit possession and release of mute swans, a non-native species.
  • Amendment to Wildlife Regulation 5.0 would expand opportunities for hunters to take a turkey hunter education class and become eligible for a Delaware turkey hunting permit, and establish a youth day for turkey hunting.
  • Amendment to Wildlife Regulation 7.0 would correct an omission regarding the non resident quality buck deer tag; clarify that only two antlered deer may be killed during a license year; and reduce the age to 10 years for participation in the youth day deer hunt.

  • Amendment to Wildlife Regulation 8.0 would allow geocaching on State Wildlife Areas, separating it from hunting activities to prevent conflict and improve safety.

For more information, please call the Wildlife Section at 302-735-3600.
