DuPont Nature Center to Hold Benefit Dec. 6
The DuPont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor Reserve, a DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife facility, will hold the Mispillion Light Holiday Benefit from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. The Center is located at 2992 Lighthouse Road, east of Milford.
Hosted by the Friends of the DuPont Nature Center as a fundraiser for the Center’s educational programs, the event will feature hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, raffles and a book signing by photographer Kevin Fleming. Local artists Frank Sheldon, Marcia Poling, Harold Van Dyck, Hope Atwood Dayhoff and Tony Pratt will also bring their work.
Dedicated in May 2007, the Center drew nearly 10,000 visitors from around the world in its first year, plus another 2,185 visitors in June and July. Perched on the edge of Mispillion Harbor at the intersection of the mouths of the Mispillion River and Cedar Creek, the Center offers wildlife watchers a front-row seat for the spring spectacle of spawning horseshoe crabs and migrating shorebirds including the red knot that depend on horseshoe crab eggs to help fuel their 9,000-mile journey.
The DuPont Nature Center also offers a variety of interactive exhibits, school tours and educational programs. The Center is currently open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Tickets to the Mispillion Light Holiday Benefit are $30 per person if purchased before Nov. 26, and $40 after that date and at the door. The number of tickets is limited. For tickets or more information, call Dawn Webb at the Center at 302-422-1329.
