First State Heritage Park Presents Final Presbyterian Cemetery Lantern Tour of the Season
DOVER (Sept. 7, 2011) – The First State Heritage Park will offer a Lantern Tour of Dover’s historic Presbyterian Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. This is the last chance this season for visitors to experience this popular tour which is presented in cooperation with The Presbyterian Church of Dover.
Participants will tour this historic cemetery by lantern light, and see where many prominent Delawareans and their families are buried. The characters that visitors will encounter include Delaware’s Revolutionary War hero Colonel John Haslet, who died a hero’s death at the Battle of Princeton in 1777, and several 18th-century widows with decided opinions!
The tour meets at the Johnson Victrola Museum Parking Lot at 375 S. New Street. Admission is $5 and tour space is limited. Those interested may call 302-739-9194 to reserve a lantern. The entire list of fall programs offered at the park is available at www.destateparks.com/heritagepark.
The First State Heritage Park at Dover is Delaware’s first urban “park without boundaries” linking historic and cultural sites in the city that has been the seat of state government since 1777. The park is a partnership of state agencies, under the leadership of Delaware State Parks, working in collaboration with city and county government, nonprofit organizations and the private sector.
