Fish and Wildlife Enforcement agents conduct sweep of Inland Bays crab pots
Untended, unmarked, improperly marked recreational crab pots removed and held

GEORGETOWN (June 15, 2012) – In working to achieve public compliance through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources, DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Enforcement agents this week conducted a sweep of the Inland Bays for potential violations of recreational crabbing regulations.

On June 11, agents tagged 250 marked, unmarked and improperly marked pots in Rehoboth Bay, Love Creek and Herring Creek with notes to the owners to correct violations and tend their pots within 72 hours to minimize the death of entrapped crabs or fish. On June 14, agents rechecked the area and seized 68 crab pots that remained in violation of regulations.

Owners of the confiscated crab pots may contact Fish and Wildlife Enforcement at 302-739-4580 to identify and claim their pots.

For more information on crabbing regulations, please check the 2012 Delaware Fishing Guide, available online and at fishing license dealers throughout the state.

Citizens are encouraged to report fish and wildlife and boating violations to the Delaware Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Section by calling 302-739-4580.
