Fish and Wildlife agents seek information on piebald deer poaching

HOCKESSIN (Sept. 26, 2011) – DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement agents are seeking information on a possible suspect or suspects in a Sept. 22 incident in which a piebald deer was poached. The unusual almost all-white deer was a familiar sight in area of Ashland Clinton School Road in Hockessin, where a resident found the deer dead with a bow wound in a ditch about 15 yards from the road on Friday morning.

“Poaching is an illegal and wasteful act in all cases, but in this case, it was also hurtful to a community that had enjoyed seeing this unusual animal in their neighborhood,” said Sgt. Gregory Rhodes of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement.

Anyone with information to report on this poaching incident is asked to call the Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Operation Game Theft toll-free, 24-hour hotline at 1-800-292-3030 or visit http://www.dnrec.delaware.gov/fw/Hunting/Pages/OpGameTheft.aspx. A reward is offered for information that leads to a conviction. Those who give information are not required to give their names and their identities are kept confidential.

The DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Enforcement Section is charged with achieving public compliance through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources and ensure safe boating and public safety.

Citizens are encouraged to report fish and wildlife and boating violations to the Delaware Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Section at 302-739-4580.
