Fort Delaware Ferry for Paranormal Adventures departs from Fort Mott on Oct.15

DELAWARE CITY (Sept. 21, 2011) – The very popular Paranormal Adventures have returned to Fort Delaware, including a special Fort Mott ferry departure on Oct. 15.  Fort Mott is located on the New Jersey side of the Delaware River.  Along with Fort Delaware and Fort Dupont, Fort Mott was part of a coastal defense system for the Delaware River in the era of modernization that followed the Civil War.  The special Fort Mott programs are offered at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Paranormal Adventure programs are for visitors ages 12 and older. Participants will join in an actual investigation with Delaware Ghost Hunters, Inc.  Stops include areas where paranormal activity has been suspected, and investigators will use EMFs, data recorders and temperature sensors in an effort to capture unusual sights and sounds.  Visitors are welcome to bring their own equipment, as long as it is easy to transport.

Areas of the Pea Patch Island Civil War fortress to be investigated may include the fort's prisoner barracks, mess hall, officer's kitchen, ordnance room area and the west end of the Endicott section. The evening will start with a short introduction at the entrance to the fort, after which small groups will be led by a park interpreter to the various areas of investigation.

Paranormal Adventure programs will also be held at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 30, Oct. 1, 7, 8, 14, 21 and 22, and Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. only.  The ferry for that program departs from Delaware City.  The five-hour extended Paranormal Investigation on Oct. 29 from 9:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m.,designed for die-hard ghost hunters, is sold out.  Staff at Fort Delaware are considering offering an additional Paranormal Investigation. Individuals interested in having their names placed on a waiting list should call 302-834-7941.

The three-hour investigations (including boat travel time to the fort) are available by reservation only. The cost per participant is $40. The extended Paranormal Investigation costs $100 per person, and also requires pre-registration. Participants should dress appropriately for weather and walking; no open-toed shoes. This is a rain or shine program. The program will only be canceled in the event of severe weather that makes the boat ride unsafe. In the event of a cancellation, park staff will call to notify registrants.

Fort Delaware State Park is accessible only by ferry. Participants should arrive 30 minutes prior to boat departure.  Reservations may be made by calling 1-877-987-2757 or online at www.destateparks.com.  More information about Fort Delaware is available by calling 302-834-7941.
