Fort Delaware State Park’s Victorian Kids Fest Weekend
offers slate of outdoor activities
DELAWARE CITY (May 30, 2014) – Fort Delaware has dozens of activities scheduled for the weekend of June 7, including a special Victorian Kids Fest, a vintage baseball game and more.
The Victorian Kids Fest runs from noon to 4 p.m., and features historical games and crafts for kids. It is co-sponsored by the Fort Delaware Society. An old-time baseball game takes place at 1 p.m. as the Diamond State Base Ball Club takes on the Rising Sun Club of Maryland. Lawn chairs are recommended for the game.
Other events include a Herons & History walk at 11:30 a.m., followed by an opportunity to view the island’s heron nesting population from the dock all afternoon. On Sunday, June 8 at 4 p.m., the park also offers a special mainland walking tour of historic Fort DuPont. The tour meets at the foot of Wilmington Avenue near the Fort DuPont fishing point road.
Access to Pea Patch Island is by ferry from either Delaware City or Fort Mott (Pennsville), New Jersey. Ferry tickets cost $11 for adults, $6 for children 2-12, and $10 for seniors and Active Duty Military (with ID). There is an extra $1 fee for visitors wishing to travel to Fort Mott from Delaware City as well. Children under 2 are admitted free of charge. There is no extra charge for the Festival or baseball games.
Reservations are suggested, but visitors may purchase tickets on the day of the program on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations may be made by calling 1-877-987-2757 or by visiting destateparks.com. Tickets may only be reserved 24 hours in advance.
