Fort Delaware State Park Announces Price Toyota Weekend
DELAWARE CITY (July 27, 2011) – The staff at Fort Delaware State Park is pleased to announce a unique partnership with Price Toyota of New Castle to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. On Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31, Price Toyota will be giving away 100 passes to Fort Delaware at the park’s ticket office. The tickets, an $11 value, will be given on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of two per family. The ticket office, located at 45 Clinton Street, opens at 9:30 a.m. and the first ferry boat to Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island departs at 10 a.m.Visitors will be accompanied during their ferry ride to the Fort by a Confederate prisoner, who will recount his escape from Fort Delaware.
Also during the month of July, Price Toyota will issue complimentary Fort Delaware passes to customers who purchase a vehicle at the dealership, and will host a drawing for two tickets to the popular Paranormal Adventures in October (an $80 value). Fort Delaware is located on Pea Patch Island in the Delaware River, across from Delaware City. During the Civil War, the fortress served as a prison for confederate soldiers. Access to the island is by ferry boat from Delaware City. The Fort features award-winning living history programs with costumed interpreters who represent the prisoners, soldiers and civilians who lived on the island in the 1860s.
The Fort is open Wednesday through Sundays. It is also open on Labor Day, after which it will close for the season. The Fort will continue to offer Scouting Overnights, field trips and the very popular Paranormal Investigative Programs.
