 Fort Delaware State Park opens April 26
with Spring Sneak Peek Saturdays

DELAWARE CITY (April 24, 2014) – Fort Delaware State Park’s 2014 season begins on April 26 with special “Spring Sneak Peek Saturdays.”  The Fort will be open on Saturdays only through May 17, then weekends and holidays through June 11.  Beginning June 11, the fort will be open Wednesday through Sunday and holidays until Sept. 1.  The park will also offer two Sept. weekends.

April 26’s opening day slate of programs features free Behind-the-Scenes tours, normally a $5 fee. Herons & History includes a birding walk to observe one of the largest heronries north of Florida, as well as history of the north part of the island. Binoculars and insect repellent are recommended for this adventure. A Heron Watch also takes place on the dock in the afternoon.

On the mainland at Fort DuPont, a History Photo Walk is offered at 10 a.m.  Visitors should bring a camera and meet at the flagpole on the east side of the parade field to learn tricks of the trade for snapping excellent historical photos.
