Fort Delaware to feature special program about Abraham Lincoln
DELAWARE CITY (July 23, 2012) –The public is invited to a special presentation by Delaware Humanities Forum Scholar Daniel Pritchett. On Sunday, July 29 at 2 p.m., Pritchett will present a one-hour illustrated lecture, “With Malice Towards None: Abraham Lincoln in Words and Pictures,” which touches on Lincoln’s early life and character, his remarkable strength, sense of compassion, love of books, aversion to drinking and gambling, and almost visceral disgust of slavery.
The presentation includes examples of some of Lincoln’s most magnetic words and describes how his eloquent speaking manner transformed the nation. Mr. Pritchett’s presentation is co-sponsored by the Delaware Humanities Forum. The Forum is funded through the National Endowment for the Humanities as well as the State of Delaware Grant-in-Aid program.
There is no fee for the program. Travel to Fort Delaware is by ferry from either Delaware City or Fort Mott, New Jersey. Ferry reservations can be made by calling 1-877-987-2757 or visiting destateparks.com/ferry. More information is available by calling the park office at 302-834-7941.
