Fort Delaware Candlelight Ghost Tours opening weekend nearly sold out

DELAWARE CITY - The 2009 Candlelight Ghost Tours at Fort Delaware State Park will debut this weekend, June 26 and 27, at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. each night.

Ghost Tour participants will take a candlelit tour through the spookiest parts of the Civil War fortress on Pea Patch Island. These popular tours are led by ghost host favorite Ed Okonowicz who shares the history and some mysterious tales of Fort Delaware.

The tours are $20 per person. The 8 p.m. tours are nearly full, but for those who prefer to tour the eerie fort with some daylight left, there are a limited number of seats available for the 6 p.m. tours. Reservations may be made by calling 877-98-PARKS (877-987-2757) or visiting www.destateparks.com

Fort Delaware, located on Pea Patch Island in the Delaware River was the site of a Civil War prison in the 1860s. A bustling community grew in and around the fort in its heyday, making it one of the largest cities in Delaware at one time. Fort Delaware hosted the SciFi Channel’s Ghost Hunters for two special broadcasts in 2008.

The Candlelight Ghost Tours continue on select weekends through September. A full schedule and more information are available at www.destateparks.com or by calling 302-834-7941.
