Fort Delaware State Park Announces New Season
DELAWARE CITY, Del. - The 2009 visitor season at Fort Delaware State Park begins Saturday, May 2. The Fort will be open on Saturdays through May 23, then weekends and holidays through June 14. Beginning June 17, the Fort will be open Wednesday through Sunday and holidays until closing day on September 7. The new, condensed season allows staff to focus on presenting fresh new programs and opportunities to the public.
In addition to favorites like the Officers’ Quarters, the Blacksmith Shop and the Laundry, a new library is open and furnished as it may have been during the Civil War. Programs such as a Victorian Kids Fest and P.O.W. Weekends have been added to the already popular artillery demonstrations and infantry drills.
Visitors will want to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the Memorial Day and Fourth of July holidays. The Don Hubbard Field Music School returns to the Fort for the 2009 season and additional Candlelight Ghost Tours have been added.
A complete list of programs is available by calling Fort Delaware at 302-834-7941 or visiting www.destateparks.com. Fort Delaware is located on Pea Patch Island in the Delaware River and can only be reached by ferry. Ferry tickets and program reservations are obtained by calling 877-98-PARKS (877-987-2757) or online at www.destateparks.com.
