Fox Point State Park to Close for Next Week for Road Repaving
Fox Point State Park, located just north of Wilmington along the Delaware River, will close for five days, beginning Monday, Sept. 29, for repair and repaving of the entrance road. The park with reopen on Saturday Oct. 4.
The road has been in disrepair for several years as the Fox Point Phase II project has been underway. The joint project of the Divisions of Parks and Recreation and Air and Waste Management involves construction work to remediate contaminated soils as well as to develop park amenities on the adjoining 40 acres of land located immediately north of the existing park.
Ongoing construction activities at the northern end of the site and a heavy volume of truck traffic had degraded the road.
Upon completion, the Phase II area will be opened to the public to enjoy new trails, parking, open space, additional restroom facilities, and a scenic river overlook. The project is expected to be completed in Spring, 2009.
